DALGONA COFFEE – Creamy Frothy Coffee It is named after a South Korean candy, Dalgona which is made of sugar, oil and baking soda which becomes thick and fluffy when heated. Its surge in popularity happened when it appeared on a Korean TV show called Pyunstorang in January. Actor Jung Il-Woo traveled to Macau, tried the drink, and gave it the nickname dalgona for its resemblance to the traditional Korean sponge candy of the same name. It’s since caught the eye of TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram users the world over, and—perhaps with almost everybody at home now—it’s gone especially viral these past few days. The best part is, it’s relatively easy to whip up in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp hot water

Instructions

  1. Whisk until frothy!
  2. For manual whisking, it will take around 10 minutes and a lot of arm work out.
  3. Once done with the whisking, in a cup, mix 2 tbsp powdered milk and hot water.
  4. Top it up with the frothy coffee mixture.
  5. Enjoy your cup of dalgona coffee!
